While there are no plans to change the name of Earth Day to Resilience Day anytime soon, for people like Jackie Guild, that might be a good idea for creating awareness for serious resilience planning for environmental protection in Annapolis.
Guild, who heads up environmental policy for the City of Annapolis, is helping make a radical change in how the community defends itself from the consequences of climate change and rising sea levels.
Working closely with the Mayor, the city manager, and other elected officials, Jackie is transitioning into the primary planner to create and maintain a city-wide resiliency plan. Its goal will be to implement best practices to protect the city’s waterfronts, improve its comprehensive plan (now up for renewal), and expand open space strategically to mitigate the predicted damage caused by more frequent and more captiitisigfic weather events.
